A new poster for the collection of bowel waste I left in the toilet bowl this morning—oh, sorry, I meant to say the latest movie from pop culture spoofers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer—came out today, and as always, it's packed with enough stupid references to make even Chuck Norris' eyes bleed his own blood.
When you look at the poster, I'm sure all of you can recognize most if not all of the spoofed movies, but what's missing here? Here, let's walk through it (click pic to enlarge). From left to right: Hancock, Hellboy, The Incredible Hulk, Sex and the City, The Dark Knight, Speed Racer (Mach 5 in the background), Iron Man, High School Musical, Hannah Montana, Wanted, Some Skanky Bimbo, Juno, Kung Fu Panda, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Enchanted and Alvin and the Chipmunks. What's missing? Well, not a single one of those movies are what you'd call a "Disaster Movie". Nada.
There's a reason for this. The project was first announced as a Superbad spoof called Goodie Two Shoes, which we regrettably reported on back in April. Shows you how fast-cheap-and-easy these movies are made. It was never meant to be spoofing disaster movies. It's just a convenient title they've chosen because, well, Goodie Two Shoes isn't catchy enough and Superhero Movie was taken (anyone else as surprised as I was to find out that these two didn't do that one?).
All that said, Disaster Movie is perhaps the best title they could've chosen, because it looks like a disastrous movie and potential audiences should be warned about it. It's a big step towards honesty and let's hope Friedberg and Seltzer have enough humanity and forthrightness in them to call their next outing Shitty Movie.
